Victoria Day Longweekend - Banff National Park

What a great weekend. The rain held off held late this afternoon as everyone was headed back home to prepare for the work week ahead.

As tradition goes, Victoria Day marked the end of the 2010-2011 ski season at Sunshine Village with the famous and fun Slush Cup.

But for those who did not go to Sunshine Village, many were biking and walking along the Vermillion Lakes Road. A number of people were bird watching as there are a number of ducks, Canadian geese along with a few Trumpeter Swans.

Did you know that the Bow River pathway, located behind our location on Bow Avenue connects to the Fenland Marsh and then to the Vermillion Lakes Road?

If just coming from Calgary for a quick weekend getaway, be sure to bring your bike and discover our pathways and bring a set of binoculars. Or too, if you don't feel like bringing your bike, rentals are available near by at Snowtips-Bactrax located on Bear Street. Be sure to visit our Concierge Desk for more info.

Make your next visit to Banff National Park a green visit. Park and ride.

Springtime in the Rockies

Today was our first wonderful day of sunshine, warm temperature and robin-egg blue sky. Lots of people were out and about walking, running and biking today.

If you need a quick escape from the townsite and don't have alot of time your hands, be sure to take a stroll along the Hoodoo Trail. Starting directly from behind our location and using the Bow River path-way you can make your way to Surprise Corner and onto the Hoodoo Trail. Whether you are up for a half-day stroll or an evening outing, the Hoodoo Trail is currently snow-free and dry. This trail provides great views of the Bow River and Rundle Mountain.

This time of year, you can expect to find a number of Prairie Crocus flowers which is a true sign that Spring has come to the Rockies.

You can find them on the open hill-side area above the Hoodoos.

If you need further information on trails around the townsite, be sure stop and see our helpful Reception staff for recommendations and maps. Or too, visit our Town of Banff website at:
